Bimala Duwadi is the former Deputy Mayor of Ratnanagar Municipality in Chitwan, Nepal. She has been a dedicated political leader and social worker, known for her significant contributions to community development and women’s rights.
Early Life and Education
Bimala Duwadi was born on Bhadra 28, 2016 B.S. in Khanigaun, Taruka, Nuwakot district, Nepal. Her father, Dinanath Rimal, and mother, Chandra Ku Rimal, were farmers. Bimala’s early years were largely spent at her maternal home, as her mother passed away when she was just four years old. Consequently, she never faced reprimands for her mischief during her childhood. She began her education at the local school in Khanigaun and also attended daily classes taught by her grandfather in their home’s granary.
Personal Life
Bimala married at a young age, tying the knot with Premnath Duwadi when she was 12 and he was 15. Despite their young age, their marriage was harmonious, and Premnath supported Bimala throughout her journey. Together, they had three children. Bimala underwent family planning after having three children by the age of 19. Although her children later moved abroad for work, Bimala advises the youth to stay in Nepal and support their aging parents.
Political Career
Bimala’s political journey began early, driven by her curiosity about social inequalities and her belief in equality for all. In 2046 B.S., she played a significant role in the Jana Andolan (People’s Movement) and subsequently joined the CPN-UML and the All Nepal Women’s Association. Her dedication earned her various opportunities within the party and its associated organizations.
In 2054 B.S., Bimala served as a member of the Ratnanagar Municipal Council. Her commitment and leadership led to her election as the Deputy Mayor of Ratnanagar Municipality, a position she held from 2074 to 2079 B.S. Despite facing setbacks in the 2079 B.S. elections, Bimala remained dedicated to serving the people, providing unwavering support during their times of need.
Contributions and Achievements
Bimala has been instrumental in various development projects and has made significant contributions to the municipality’s infrastructure, including the construction of a sky bridge in Tadi Bazaar, improvements in education and healthcare, and enhancements to the Ratnanagar Hospital.
She has been actively involved in mediation training since 2060 B.S., working with the municipality and the Chitwan District Court. As the coordinator of the Judicial Committee, she has handled numerous cases with fairness and integrity, earning the respect and gratitude of the community.
Current Roles and Legacy
Bimala Duwadi continues to serve the community as a member of the Bagmati Pradesh Committee and the chairperson of the Chitwan District All Nepal Women’s Association. Despite health challenges, she remains dedicated to her work and finds contentment in her contributions to society. Her life is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her party and the people she serves.
