Dhana Raj Acharya (Nepali: धनराज आचार्य) is a prominent Nepalese politician, businessman, and philanthropist, currently serving as the 16th Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City. Born on March 30, 1970, in the Bharat Pokhari neighborhood of Pokhara, Kaski District, Acharya has emerged as a key figure in Nepalese politics and civic leadership.
Early Life and Education
Acharya’s journey began in Pokhara, where he received his early education at Shanti Udaya Secondary School. He continued his academic pursuits at Prithvi Narayan Campus, where he excelled in his studies. Acharya holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and Education, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning.
Political Career
Acharya’s political journey began at a young age when he joined the All Nepal National Free Students Union (UML) in 1982. He emerged as a prominent student leader at Prithvi Narayan Campus, advocating for the rights and welfare of his fellow students. Over the years, he became actively involved in various political parties, including CPN (Marxist–Leninist) and CPN (Unified Marxist–Leninist), demonstrating his versatility and dedication to public service.
In 2018, Acharya became a member of the newly formed Nepal Communist Party, marking a significant milestone in his political career. He later joined the CPN (Unified Socialist) party in August 2021, aligning himself with a progressive political vision.
Acharya’s leadership and organizational skills were recognized within the party, leading to his candidacy for the mayoral election of Pokhara Metropolitan City in 2022. Running under the banner of CPN (Unified Socialist), he emerged victorious with an impressive mandate, garnering 58,893 votes.

Outside of politics, Acharya is a devoted family man, married to Pushpa Kumari Acharya, with whom he shares two children. He balances his political responsibilities with a commitment to his family and personal well-being.
